His students are a spicy mix of ambition, street smarts, drive and creativity, who face a great deal of adversity. Phillip believes hat, above all, it's up to the teachers to instill the knowledge and confidence they need to succeed. With that in mind, despite the challenges his students face, he holds them to the highest standards and empowers them to think for themselves. When they enter his classroom, they are there to work. Slacking off simply will not do. They have to clock in, dress appropriately and be on time. When he started, the program has 120 students. Today it has nearly 400, with a waiting list of 200 more. For many of his students, Phillip says, Prostart is what keeps them in school. It's their safe haven. The recent transformation of the school's traditional (home economic) kitchen into a state-of-the-art commercial masterpiece enhanced their experience. But it's not what draws these students to Prostart. That's theur chef, Phillip Dell, who is indeed "Feeding Dreams; Building Futures".
