The Retirement of the Penny Could Cost Restaurants
With the U.S. Mint ending penny production and coin supplies running out, the National Restaurant Association is urging Congress to pass the Common Cents Act to establish federal rounding rules for cash transactions. Without guidance, businesses could face compliance confusion in states with mandatory cash acceptance laws. Restaurants Join Swipe Fee Reform Fight
The National Restaurant Association and the Merchant Payments Coalition are launching a Swipe Fee Merchant Bootcamp on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. EST via Zoom, a 120-minute training designed to help operators prepare for next year’s legislative push on credit card fees. The session will walk participants through key talking points, advocacy strategies, and new tools to support swipe fee reform nationwide. Nevada will join the fight in the 2027 legislative session, pushing for fair swipe fee rules that protect Main Street restaurants and small businesses.
