John Hernandez began his food service career over forty years ago serving five years as a Restaurant Manager for a Sizzler franchisee in Bakersfield, California. He changed his career path to banking and finance for six years, working at American National Bank and Wells Fargo bank in various credit capacities such as analyst, credit examination officer and commercial lender. In 1992, John joined a Burger King franchise group in Southern California as Controller, later becoming the group’s Chief Financial Officer. Over the course of nearly seven years, John has been elevated to the position of Chief Executive Officer within the group.
John is married to his wife, Stella and they have four adult children. His dedication to the business precludes hobbies but he and his wife are avid Golden Knight hockey team fans, and his interests are cooking and travel.

Mark Sandoval was drawn to cooking at an early age – an interest he credits to his father. Upon graduation in 1995, he moved to San Francisco to pursue his love for all things culinary, where he enrolled in the California Culinary Academy. His first restaurant position came at Moose’s, a North Beach favorite where Sandoval learned to prepare seasonal American cuisine with local, small-farm ingredients, a passion that would develop Sandoval’s cooking style. Mark has worked for some notable chefs such as master chef Joel Robuchon and Wolfgang Puck. After nearly 6 years at the helm, Sandoval moved off of the strip to the M Resort to oversee Anthony’s Gourmet Burgers & Brews and Marinelli’s. While working at the M Resort, Mark began teaching at UNLV as a part time instructor in the Hospitality College. His goals shifted at that point with a new direction towards education. In March of 2016 Sandoval accepted the position of Executive Chef of UNLV. In 2019 Mark was chosen to sit on the board of directors for the Nevada Restaurant Association.

She is currently on the executive board for the Nevada Restaurant Association, is a mentor and judge for the Prostart high school culinary competitions, and volunteers extensively with a variety of local community charity groups.

Philippa Hayes
Vice President F&B Mandalay Bay Resort and Luxor Australian born and educated and raised in Hong Kong, Philippa’s early exposure to a myriad of cultures, food and travel spurred her passion for hospitality and all the culinary world could offer. Philippa began her career working all kinds of roles in wine, fine-dining and events while attending the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia, where she graduated with a dual degree BA of Commerce and BA of Arts. Knowing her calling was in food and wine, and lots of it, she sought out the best of that world by relocating to fabulous Las Vegas in 2005 and working with 3 Michelin starred Chef Guy Savoy in his first venture outside of France. In 2009 Philippa parlayed her extensive restaurant experience into the larger operation of The Venetian Resort where she worked her way up with progressive promotions to the role of Vice President of Food and Beverage which she held for 6 years. There, she oversaw the operations and development of the properties culinary and beverage programs; including the hotel’s celebrity chef partnered restaurants, nightlife collection, pool decks and luxury services team. |

Regional Manager border grill las vegas | bbq mexicana | pacha mamas Yancy is the regional manager for the Border Grill group. Born in Miami, Yancy moved to the Las Vegas Valley in 1981. He Attended Las Vegas High School and began his restaurant career at the young age of 15. He has been a part of the Las Vegas community for over 42 years and in the restaurant industry for over 25 years. After attending culinary school at CSN he continued to work with China Grill Management, Batali & Bastianich Hospitality and Border Grill. His focus is on creating amazing and approachable cultures within his organizations as well as memorable experiences for guests. Yancy’s results have proven several successful openings and new concept launches within the Las Vegas Valley. |
